About Me
Welcome to My World: A Journey of Faith, Family, and Empowerment
Hello everyone! I’m Elizabeth, a proud mother of four beautiful daughters aged 15, 13, 9, and 2. I’m delighted to share my journey with you on this blog—an adventure shaped by love, resilience, and an unwavering belief in the power of community.
A Bit About Me: The Roots of My Journey
Born in the vibrant nation of Sierra Leone, I moved to Canada 20 years ago, carrying with me dreams of a better future not only for myself but more importantly for my girls. I vividly remember the day we arrived in Canada: the first breathtaking sight of snow, their wide-eyed amazement at the towering buildings, and my heart swelling with hope for the new life ahead of us.
Navigating a new culture was daunting at times. I’ll never forget standing in the grocery store, overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices. I felt like I was stepping into uncharted territory. But those early struggles ultimately drove my passion for social work, where I found my calling as a settlement counselor. For five years, I helped families like mine find their footing in this beautiful country, sharing both successes and heartaches along the way.
Transitioning from that role, I have embraced life as a dayhome provider while currently studying to become an early childhood educator. This role combines my love of learning with nurturing young minds, reminding me daily of the joy and challenges of parenthood.
Mission
My Mission: To Inspire Through Experience
As a devoted Christian, my faith is intricately woven into every aspect of my life. It was during a particularly challenging time—when my middle daughter faced bullying at school—that I found solace and strength through prayer. One night at dinner, as we launched into another discussion about her day, I mustered the encouragement she desperately needed. I told her, "You are unique, and your light cannot be dimmed by others’ words." This moment reminded me of the profound impact we can have on each other when we stand together in faith and support.
My mission, then, is clear: to inspire immigrants, parents, and women to navigate the rocky paths of life while celebrating every victory, no matter how small. Life can often feel isolating, yet I want to empower you to create meaningful moments with your children, just as I strive to do amidst the chaos of raising four girls.
Vision
Life is Better Together: Building a Community
That brings me to my vision—a world where stories, experiences, and advice come together to uplift each other. In this blog, you’ll find:
Personal Parenting Tips: I draw from my experiences, whether it’s how I cope with my teen’s mood swings or fun family recipes that keep my kids engaged in the kitchen. I will share my own tales—from the time my youngest accidentally dyed her hair with food coloring to the joy of finding out my eldest aced her final exams despite the stress of juggling work and school.
Cultural Insights: As an immigrant, I’ve waved goodbye to the comforts of home and embraced new traditions here in Canada. Whether it's celebrating holidays with African food or blending cultures during family dinners, every experience has been a lesson worth sharing.
DIY Projects and Hobbies: My hobbies reflect my creative spirit. Whether I’m braiding hair for my daughters before school or making personalized rugs as gifts, there’s something special about creating tangible memories. I can’t wait to take you along on these DIY adventures!
Faith Reflections: I’ll share heartfelt anecdotes about how faith has uplifted my family through turbulent times, like when we overcame financial hurdles after moving into a new community. Our faith community embraced us, bringing comfort and friendship when we needed it most.
